The Perseid Meteor Shower Meets a New Moon

The Perseid meteor shower is one of the most prolific of the year, peaking every August with up to 100 meteors an hour. In 2026 the peak lands on a new moon on August 13 — zero moonlight, zero interference, and the faintest shooting stars and fireballs left with nowhere to hide.

Badger sits at 9,000 feet in Park County, Colorado — one of the darkest sky corridors in the state. No city lights. No light pollution. Just the Milky Way poured across the whole sky and the Perseid radiant blazing through Perseus until dawn.

Our Thursday pre-party is built around exactly this. The dance party rolls under the falling stars, then gives way to ambient soundscapes as the night deepens and the sky takes center stage. It is, as far as we can tell, the only music festival in the country designed around the Perseid meteor shower.

No telescope, no expertise, no plan required — the Perseids are a naked-eye event. At our elevation and darkness, expect 80–100+ meteors an hour at peak, including bright fireballs that drag persistent trains behind them. The radiant rises in the northeast after midnight, but they streak across the entire sky. Just look up.
